Rod Iron Doors Still Hold Design Appeal

In spite of the practical appeal of standard glass and screen doors, rod iron doors still hold their own when it comes to appealing designs.  Each year new styles continue to be introduced.  So you may be able to find just the right one that is perfect for your house or business. Keeping in mind a few simple considerations will steer you toward the right choice.

To Customize or Not to Customize

You can find rod iron doors that are readymade and good to go.  But if you want something special, you can consider going with a custom made door.  As you would expect, customized doors cost more.  The advantage is that they will be tailor made for your needs and design ideas.  If you have a doorway of unusual dimensions, a custom door is the way to go.  If you want to display family initials or even coats of arms, then having your doors customized could prove ideal.  To keep your budget under control, also take a look at the many fine doors that are available readymade.

Deciding on Size

Before you start shopping, check the measurements of your doorway.  Jot down the dimensions and carry them with you whether you are buying online or making the rounds of local stores.  You may find that the entryway is unusually wide or narrow. You will want to know ahead of time.  Compare the height and width you need with doors that are available.

Finding the Perfect Design

Depending on your style goals, you will have a variety of designs to choose from.  Some doors feature wooden frames with rod iron patterning at the center.  The rod iron may be combined with glass backing so that the center of the door resembles a classical window.

Other doors come in arch shapes with no glass behind the iron.  This type requires another weather door behind to help protect the building from outside elements. Some arched doors, however, do have wooden backing so no second door will be required.

Protecting Your Door

Making sure your exterior door carries weather resistant sealant is a good idea to help your door last for many years to come.  Rod iron holds its own against the weather better than other metals, but it does not hurt to take extra precautions.  Then you will be ready for whatever nature throws your way.

Many designs are available, so your own good taste may be the most important factor involved in picking the right door.  Consider styles that suit your home and personal style.  Then do some comparison shopping so that you get the best price for the door you want.  If the perfect door does not yet exist, you can order one customized for you.  Rod iron doors still prove a good choice for stylish and sturdy entryways.
